Nothing is True. Everything is Permitted. Also...everything is hilarious!

Okay, so that last part isn't in the series, but the internet has become a funny place to find a humorous twist on the Assassin's Creed franchise. From its humble beginnings a decade ago exploring the Crusades and the war between the Assassin Order and the Templar Order, to the larger than life exploration of Ancient Egypt, this franchise is steeped in history and death. Yet, despite all of the carnage that this series focuses on, the internet has done a fantastic job of bringing Ubisoft's deadly franchise into the twenty-first century with the creation of memes.

Memes are hilarious. They allow people to utilize their favorite properties and express their humor in interesting ways. Whether it's good old-fashioned humor or even some dark humor, there's a meme out there for everyone. In a franchise dominated by so much death and political/historical intrigue, the meme is a perfect way of expressing the humorous side of both the game and the player. Whether you want to see how different Assassins handle dating or maybe you want to see your favorite comic book character integrate into the franchise, there is a meme out there for everyone.

So come along on this journey with us as we take the time to explore the 25 most hilarious Assassin's Creed memes we could find. Some will be dark, some will be strange, but at the end of the day, they will all be knee-slapping and hilarious to see.

25 Lack Of Morality

via Meme Center

This meme is the perfect example of what happens when you take the player out of the story of a game. There are often two different modes to a game: story mode and free play/multiplayer. This happens in the Assassin's Creed franchise, where players are taken into a heavily narrated story with some amazing characters, complex plots and beautiful settings, that make it a fantastic experience. However, you are also subject to the moral compass of the character you play as, feeling their struggle as they make mistakes and innocents die. However, in the free play mode of the game, you find yourself without morals, killing enemies and innocent alike with no qualm or quarrel with your inner feelings. This meme captures the difference between the story and free play modes perfectly, showing a scenario where your assassin struggles internally with an innocent's death while in free play you stab people in the face with a goofy grin.

24 Skewed Views

via pinterest

As we've mentioned before, there is a lot of death in this franchise. With a game series built upon assassinating people, you should expect to see guys stabbed in the back and thrown off rooftops. Yet, this meme coming up hilariously showcases the skewed view the player has of your assassin character and the people you are assassinating. From the outside you look like this stoic and sometimes scary person, scowling in your hood and looking for your next target. However, it turns so funny when you see the view the assassin sees through their hood, showing happy go lucky citizens going about their merry way like it's a Disney movie or something. This makes the assassin view their kills in a similarly silly yet necessary way, allowing them to make the kills a lot less scary and morally corrupting as they are. The drawing here is such a humorous way to view the AC world.

23 Glitch In The System

via YouTube (RudeOnion)

This next meme hilariously showcases the downfall of video games in general, let alone in the AC franchise. Building a video game can be complex. For those not in the know, several departments dedicated to the computer programming and design work on the game, spending months and months working on these projects, making sure the realistic tone of the games these days live up to their fullest potential. However, these developers are only human, and humans make mistakes from time to time. Not only that, but technology is not full proof and the system can fail at times, as well. This leads to the next meme, which showcases what happens when a player or NPC suddenly finds themselves stuck within something like a ship or building as if some mad science experiment has fused them together. It's hilarious to see the situation unfold the way that it does.

22 The Google Conspiracy

via For Better Gaming - blogger

Oh no, the Templars are everywhere! At least that's what this next meme would hilariously have us believe. In the world of the AC franchise, we are shown that the conspiracy theorists were right all along. There has been an ancient organization behind some of the world's most insane plots. From the sadness surrounding the JFK assassination to the death of Harry Houdini, there has been one organization behind it all. That organization was the Templar order, now working under the name of Abstergo Industries. Their enemies, the assassins, work in the shadows to fight them, but the influence of the Templars is vast and great. In this meme, we are shown that perhaps that reach extends to our world, as the new Google Drive logo is a very familiar logo. In fact, it looks just like the logo for Abstergo Industries. Everyone run for your life!!

21 Wrong Guy

via Meme Center

In this next meme, we get to see how easily it is for your character to be forgotten or disappear in a city where you have committed quite a lot of murders. You'd think that when the body count rises in a city that a witness would come forward and describe you well enough to be known. It doesn't matter how big a city is, once word gets out that you are assassinating big political figures and criminals, you'd think soldiers would automatically recognize the robes and face of that assassin. Yet, with a simple bribe or tearing down of a wanted poster, all of that suspicion and hunting down by the police suddenly disappears, and no matter how wanted the murderer is they will completely ignore you. Even when blending in with the crowd, it should be simple to spot someone wearing an elaborate robe with hood, but you are suddenly invisible to them.

20 Ethics Of Hunting

via Meme Center

Starting in Assassin's Creed III, hunting becomes an integral tool in the narrative. Exploring a world without modern technology means finding ways of surviving harsh environments without modern restaurants or grocery stores. Instead, you have to gather herbs and hunt animals in the wild. Whether you are exploring the woods or traveling the seas to unexplored islands, there are a vast array of animals you must hunt for food and supplies, as well as crafting medicine and clothing. Basically, it's a vegan and vegetarian nightmare. In this meme, we get to see the hilarious morality of hunting at play. The assassin comes across a hunter who has snared an adorable rabbit in a hunting trap. At first it appears the assassin is coming to its aid as the hunter points a gun at it, but in the end, it turns out a gunshot would ruin the coat and so the assassin starts stabbing the animal to preserve the skin. Creepy and funny.

19 Blending In

via Meme Center

One of the most crucial aspects of the Assassin's Creed franchise is stealth. Moving around these larger than life versions of real historical settings like Venice and the American Colonies, you have to find ways to carry out your missions and take out Templars without attracting too much attention to yourself. One of these ways is blending into large groups of people and making yourself seem like part of that group. However, this can be difficult to believe sometimes as the groups you have to blend with look nothing like you and wear completely different clothes and armor. One example is shown in this next meme when you are dressed as a Native American assassin and yet are trying to blend into a group of Spanish citizens and Spanish soldiers. Just because you walk in the middle of a group of people doesn't mean you look like them, Conner!

18 Relationship Status Is Complicated

via GramUnion

We have an idea about how things should play out with the people we have a crush on. You want to come across as smooth, self-assured and overall, "cool." We want that person we hold above everyone else and who we care about deeply to view us in a favorable light. However, what we want rarely ever happens, and we're left to become the shy, nervous and afraid people, we are in their presence, never knowing what to say and often opting to run away rather than talk to them. This next meme does a fantastic job of showing that scenario in terms of the AC franchise. We all want to be as self-assured and confident as Jacob Frye in AC Syndicate, but end up stumbling (both figuratively and literally) and end up jumping out of a window to get away from the person.

17 Call Of The Wild

via Meme Center

In this next meme, we see the video game logic at play as we learn how to travel in the Assassin's Creed world. In the game, we often find ourselves in the middle of nowhere, miles upon miles in the game world away from our objective. The unfortunate thing in those situations is there is no fast travel at play in these scenarios, and we have to travel there manually. Besides a horse and cart in later games, there are no vehicles to drive or fly in the game other than Da Vinci's flying machine. Therefore, the fastest way to travel is by horse. This meme showcases how silly it is that a horse is so readily available when you are in the middle of the woods and alone. With the simple whistle of a tune, you are able to call a horse that appears as if from nowhere, or perhaps hilariously hiding behind a tree.

16 Medicine Cures Everything!

via For Better Gaming - blogger

The world of Assassin's Creed is a dangerous one. There are several instances where you find yourself poisoned and in need of some serious medicine. There are other instances where a soldier stabs you, an archer pierces your armor and hits you in the back, and you even find yourself getting hit in the head by a very heavy ax. It's a deadly world out there, and you need to take good care of your health if you are going to survive long enough to take down the Templar threat. However, the medical care system in the AC world is a little confusing and unbelievable, to say the least. Whether you receive a deadly injury or are just a little under the weather, the doctors you see only do one thing for you: give you medicine. It doesn't matter if you get so injured that you'd normally need to amputate, you get medicine and suddenly the injury is gone. If only it worked like that in the real world.

15 An Assassin's Latte

via Pinterest

In this next meme, we see the way a high tech corporation with plans of global domination are dumb enough to let their enemy work for them. In Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the current day story makes you a researcher in Abstergo Industries Entertainment Division. You must research the age of pirates and end up finding yourself in the middle of the war between the Templars and the Assassins. In that game, you learn that you are a go-between for a shady employee at the company and the assassins, one of whom is Shaun Hastings from the first three games. He is now working at a barista in the company lobby of the building, talking to people and not being very discreet about his relationship with fellow assassin Rebecca. The meme does a hilarious job of showcasing the way Abstergo failed to identify Shaun and have him removed from the building.

14 Animus' Faulty System

via Sharenator

In the Assassin's Creed universe, one of the biggest aspects of the franchise is the use of the animus. The animus is a piece of technology that allows people to explore the genetic memories of their ancestors throughout history, and see through their eyes as they explore the "real" history of the world. Using this technology, the player is transported through time, but the transition is not always a smooth one. This meme does a fantastic job of showing the humorous situations that arise in the animus. Whether it's the fact that you glow whenever you purchase items at a store or sometimes you can attack a small army of well-armed soldiers and they will just watch you as you kill them one by one, there are some serious glitches in the animus system. The most hilarious aspect of this is that whenever you are doing your parkour thing around buildings, if you ever get hit by a rock you automatically fall down.

13 The Real Edward

via Pinterest

No, this isn't Twilight. You won't find any glittery vampires with rock hard abs waiting for you on this list. Instead, this next meme showcases the real Edward, not the faux model and ageless teenager who gets kind of creepy and watches teenage girls sleep. In the fourth AC game, we get to meet the protagonist Edward, a former sailor turned pirate who longs for a life filled with gold, rum, and the return of his wife, whom he aims to prove himself to as a successful privateer. However, his thirst for wealth leads him on a journey of self-discovery as he gets caught in the Templar and Assassin war, and must learn to become the hero the world needs him to be. This meme shows Edward in all his Assassin glory and points out how much more heroic and cool he is than the sparkly Edward Cullen of Twilight.

12 Taking The Long Way Around

via Reddit

In this next meme, we get to see what happens when the AC franchise incorporates fast travel into their games and doesn't tell the rest of the world. Yes, for most of the franchise up until the third and fourth game, you were tasked with traveling by horse everywhere you went. Barring long boat journeys between large cities divided by water, you spent most of your time on the back of a horse that appeared out of nowhere. In this meme, we get to see the frustration we all felt once we realized that fast travel was just waiting for us to use. How many times have we traveled by horse across in-game miles and miles of woodland areas or found ourselves swimming across large lakes and oceans to get to another section of a city, only to learn that one click of a button would have transported us instantly there? Ugh!!!

11 Proper Swearing

via Imgur

Part of the AC franchise is getting to explore various time periods and the differences between the way they would do things and the way we would do things. For instance, there is obviously a very distinct way people from around the world spoke back in the age of pirates than in today's society. This is hilariously showcased in this next meme, as we get to see what happens when the dialogue from the game is made to look like one of those internet generators that people use for their social media posts. Acting as a sort of online infomercial, we see a scene from the fourth AC game act as a British Swearing Generator, showing how Edward refers to drunken sailors as piss-pots and a poor excuse for sailors. Rarely, if ever, will you find British citizens or sailors calling someone a piss-pot anymore. It's just not done, lol.

10 Merchandise Is Required

via Pinterest

Our love for the AC games can take on new meanings when special merchandise goes on sale. Items like replica props from the game resembling weapons and outfits, or maybe a cool t-shirt or hat, make all the difference between a casual gamer and a die-hard fan of the franchise. In this next meme, we get to see the funny way gamers passion for the series plays out whenever new merchandise arrives. In the meme, a look at some really cool Assassin's Creed hoodies shows up, making the wearer look like an honorary assassin themselves. When a player notices this, they opt to not bother asking questions, instead just throwing their money at whoever is selling the merchandise so that they can become the latest to wear the hoodie. It's a hilarious way of looking at our fandom of this wonderful series and how far we're willing to go in order to represent it.

9 Gotta Love The Hook blade

via YouTube (Emilio Herrera)

One of the coolest innovations to the franchise came in Ezio's last game: Assassin's Creed: Revelations. The third in the Ezio trilogy showcased the Master Assassin traveling to Altair's home, searching for answers to the order's history and its true purpose. It's a wonderful game that allows you to explore the ancient city of Constantinople, and become a part of the local brotherhood of assassins there. In this game, Ezio is older, yet allows himself to learn a new technique of killing and escaping from danger called the hook blade. An extension of the hidden blades you use to assassinate in the game, you are able to run full force at people and leap off of them, using the hook to roll along the person's back to escape or kill. This meme showcases the "no duh" moment when you are being shown the hook blade and being told what parts make it up. It's a silly yet funny interaction between two characters.

8 Apart From The Crowd

via Meme Center

This next meme revisits the whole concept of blending into the crowd in the AC franchise. In the game, it is important to be able to blend in so that you can move about the world as stealthily as possible. While you are able to do this in the game, the logic behind it makes no sense as you stand out from the crowd just by being there. You see, in this game, you are able to wear some of the coolest looking armor around, making you a force to be reckoned with in battle. Yet, the armor and robes you wear are designed to stand out from the crowd, making you less likely to be able to blend in. If you want to blend in, you should be wearing simple garments that commoners wear, not these elaborate robes that showcase your city and house that you live in.

7 Inappropriate Entertainment

via Meme Center

This next meme highlights something I wasn't even aware of: the obsession with anything related to tentacles in the Japanese entertainment arena. In this AC meme, we see Conner Kenway encounter a large tentacled creature in the river, and the meme highlights how they know where this is leading to. This is because, in the Japanese culture, it appears that the use of tentacles is quite common. From plays and television shows that use tentacles in hilarious or humorous ways to more x-rated films and adult comics that use tentacles in more "adult" ways, this is a clear indication that the meme is showcasing this fascination with eight-legged creatures of the sea. Not sure what the appeal is to use tentacles as often as they do, but in Japanese entertainment, they are a real hit, and it's hilarious to see the clash of these two different cultures play out in this meme.

6 History Lesson

via Quickmeme

In this next meme, we get to see one of the more humorous topics of discussion in the franchise: how much real history is incorporated into the game? In the games, it is easy to see where the lines between history and fantasy collide. Historical figures often have their big discoveries or make their mark in the world in the middle of their interactions with the player. Battles fought throughout history occur the way they do in real life because of the actions of your fictional hero. Even inventions and tools used throughout history are portrayed to have been invented to help you, the player, in your quest to assassinate a lot of people. This meme highlights the historical aspect of the game, telling viewers that the games have taught history to people since 2007, the games inception year. It's a hilarious meme as the line between reality and fictional history blurs greatly in the franchise.
